Safari Themed Baby Shower

I recently helped plan my best friend’s safari themed baby shower and I thought I would share all the details! I have to admit I was busy putting things together, right until people started showing up so I didn’t get to take a ton of photos. Thankfully there were a couple of people who got some photos of all the safari-themed decor, food and desserts. If you’re planning a baby shower, please use all these photos as inspiration!

Safari Baby Shower Decor

The majority of the decor from the baby shower was purchased on Amazon. I have to admit, I didn’t put together the balloon arch but it turned out amazing and the gold Oh Baby balloon brought the whole thing together. I would recommend buying two kits and also a balloon pump if you don’t have one. We didn’t use all of the balloons but one kit wouldn’t have been enough since we also used balloons in the baby blocks.

The gold and white frames were from the Dollar Tree and so were the figurines. I spray painted them gold and then once they were dried, put a coat of clear spray paint on them to seal them. For favors we gave Bath and Body Works mini hand sanitizers, perfect for literally everyone.

My mom made the floral arrangements with flowers from Trader Joe’s (they have the best fresh flowers) and I used vases from the thrift store. The animals from Dollar Tree were spray painted with this gold spray paint and sealed with this clear coat.

This is the balloon arch we ordered. A couple of the balloons popped so I’m glad we got two kits. The leaves were used in the arch, on the table and in the baby blocks. The backdrop was attached to a background stand. The Oh Baby sign really made the background pop.
To make the diaper cake, I followed this tutorial. I got the figurines and ribbon from Michaels.

The hand sanitizers from Bath and Body Works were perfect favors and I made them safari themed with these labels. I could have ordered custom ones on Etsy but they wouldnt have gotten here in time.

Safari Baby Shower Food

Since the shower was at 2pm, we just had a charcuterie board with a ton of meats, cheeses, fruits and crackers along with some hummus that looked like a lion (soooo cute), Caprese bites, buffalo chicken dip, and a vegetable tray.

How cute is that hummus and veggie tray that looks like a lion! The caprese bites were also super easy to make (a grape tomato, mini mozzarella ball, piece of basil on a toothpick) and the mini crockpot was the perfect size for the buffalo chicken dip.

Not going to lie, I wanted the charcuterie board to be fuller and we actually had more cheese, meats and crackers but we didn’t start setting it up until about 45 minutes before the party started so we ran out of time. It still turned out great but I recommend if you are doing something like this to prep some sections in advance by laying out cookie sheets and putting the stuff on that and in the firdge so when its time to set it up, most if it just needs to be transferred off the cookie sheet.

Safari Baby Shower Desserts

If you have been following me for a while, you probably know I love desserts and baking is my JAM. To keep with the safari theme, I made lion cupcakes, zebra chocolate-covered strawberries, iced cookies and giraffe pretzels. I cheated with the French macarons and bought them from Trader Joe’s and just brushed gold paint on the chocolate ones and drizzled chocolate with sprinkles on the vanilla ones.

Here was the safari baby shower dessert set up. I went a little overboard but there were very few desserts left so I’ll take that as a win!
zebra chocolate covered strawberries and rice krispie treats
The cookies were made following Haley Cakes Cookies recipie, they are my absolute favorite cut out cookies. The zebra strawberries were first covered with white chocolate and then dipped in regular chocolate for the nose and hair in the front. For the ears I cut a mini chocolate chip in half and put some chocolate in a piping bag to make the stripes. The rice krispie treats were super easy to make, make regular rice krispies and add some food coloring and shape them with a baby onesie cookie cutter.
safari cookies
Not sure if stacked cookies are a thing or not but I made OH BABY in stacked cookies and just used some colored buttercream icing and different piping tips to give them a more polished look. Some were covered with a gold monkey (those were royal icing transfers and I painted them gold) and others were covered in sprinkles (I just made my own mix with different sprinkes from Michaels. I also used the gold paint on the french macarons to make them look a little fancier.
lion cupcakes
The cupcakes were the same flavor but some were covered in sprinkles and others looked like lions. I used different piping tips to make the mane and the white cheeks and the nose was a chocolate chip. The giraffe pretzels were yellow candy melts with melted chocolate in a piping bag.

Baby Shower Games

Part of me wanted to do baby shower games like “porn or labor” and “guess the celebrity baby names” but we went with the classic, Guess How Big Momma Is, Guess When Baby Will Come and Bingo. There are a ton of great ideas on the Pampers website if you need any ideas.
